スウェーデンの聖ルシア祭イベント

2023年12月12日（火）にグローバル教育支援センター主催によるスウェーデンの聖ルチア祭を紹介し日本人学生と留学生が交流するイベントが開催され、日本人学生7名、留学生10名が参加しました。スウェーデンでは毎年12月13日にクリスマス行事の一環として「聖ルシア」を祝うお祭りが開催され、人々に親しまれているそうです。もともとスウェーデンでは、ユリウス暦が使用されていた18世紀には12月13日が冬至の日にあたり、その日をお祝いしていました。その後、グレゴリオ暦に変わり、その伝統とともに聖ルシアが貧しい人々にルシアパンを配ったことにちなんで「聖ルシア祭」として祝われることになったそうです。
そこで、スウェーデンからの留学生のオリバーさんとグスタヴさんと一緒に午前中は「聖ルシア祭」で重要な意味を持つ伝統的な「ルシアパン」を朝倉ふれあいセンターの実習室で作りました。「ルシアパン」の本来の形は八の字型ですが、学生たちは個性を活かし花型やハート型、猫や犬などそれぞれ思い思いの形でパン作りにチャレンジしました。サフランを入れて作ったルシアパンはふっくらと焼きあがり、香ばしくなかなかの出来栄えでした。交流会では、オリバーさんによるスウェーデンの概要や料理、聖ルシア祭についての紹介があり、その後、皆自分が作った力作のルシアパンを試食しながら交流を深めあいました。
参加した学生からは、「パン作りは思ったより簡単で自分の好きな形に作れるのが楽しかった」、「今まで味わったことのないパンの味で本当に美味しかった」、「実際にスウェーデンのルシア祭を現地で体験してみたい」との感想が寄せられました。スウェーデンの留学生からは、「皆さんと楽しみながらおいしいパンが作れて嬉しかった。これを機に、スウェーデンについてもさらに興味を持ってもらいたい」との感想がありました。今回のイベントでは食文化も含めて国際交流、異文化理解を図ることができました。

     On Tuesday, December 12th, 2023, the Global Education and Advancement Support Center hosted an event to introduce Sweden’s annual St. Lucia Festival, enabling Japanese students and international students to interact with each other. In all, 7 Japanese students and 10 international students participated. The festival celebrating Saint Lucia is held in Sweden every year on December 13th as part of the Christmas festivities, and it seems that people are familiar with it. Back in the 18th century, when the Julian calendar was used in Sweden, December 13th was the day of the winter solstice, and it was popularly celebrated as such. After that, when the switch was made to the Gregorian calendar, December 13th was celebrated as "St. Lucia Festival" after St. Lucia of Syracuse, who famously distributed bread to the poor.
     Together with Oliver and Gustav, two international students from Sweden, the participants spent the morning in the training room of the Asakura Fureai Center making traditional "Lucia bread," which has an important meaning in the "St. Lucia Festival,". The original shape of "Lucia bread" is a figure eight, but the students took on the challenge of making bread into their own shapes, such as flower shapes, heart shapes, cats and dogs, using their original ideas. The Lucia bread, which is made with saffron, was plump, fragrant, and quite good. At the exchange meeting held after, Oliver gave an overview of Sweden, its cuisine, and the St. Lucia Festival, and then everyone deepened their friendship while sampling the Lucia bread that they had made.
     Participating students commented, "Making bread was easier than I expected, and I enjoyed being able to make it into my favorite shape," "It was really delicious with a taste that I had never experienced before," and "I would like to actually experience the Lucia Festival in Sweden at the site." One of the students from Sweden commented, "I was happy to be able to make delicious bread while having fun with everyone, and I hope that this will be an opportunity to get people to take an interest in Sweden even more." At this event, we were able to promote international exchange and cross-cultural understanding, including food culture.
